How to Handle Tile Gaps and Finishing Edges: Common On-Site Issues
The three most critical aspects of soft tile installation are joint width, grout color, and corner detailing. Key on-site handling guidelines are provided below.
Joint width must be determined based on product specifications and wall area. For large-format panels, leave appropriate gaps to accommodate substrate movement. For linear tiles, control joint spacing by snapping layout lines per design; avoid freehand placement to prevent cumulative errors. Grout color significantly impacts the overall appearance. Matching grout creates a seamless look, while contrasting grout emphasizes the grid pattern. Regardless of the choice, clean surface residue immediately after application to prevent difficult removal once dried. Interior and exterior corners are focal points for visual quality. Use matching corner pieces or execute 45° mitered joints. Ensure texture continuity where columns meet walls, and apply sealant at termination points using a color-coordinated compound.
